For a hundred days I illustrated tweets with trending or interesting hashtags on them, I called them #HyperHashtags. I was curious about the ephemeral quality of trending topics on Twitter and how memes become alive organisms through the use of a hashtag. My objective was to transform everyday memes into physical form through the use of a character. I understood how, by using the hashtag, people add humor, instigate fan wars, play contests, make lists, add note-to-selves, provoke, participate and have fun in the crazy sky of ambiguity that is Twitter. This personal project is part of my graduate studies at the School of Visual Arts Master’s in Branding Program.
